About Pioneering Medicines
Pioneering Medicines (PM) is dedicated to conceiving and developing a broad portfolio of life-changing treatments by leveraging and expanding the use of Flagship’s multiple bioplatforms and Flagship’s proprietary innovation process. By harnessing the power of Flagship’s first-in-category platforms, Pioneering Medicines creates and advances novel medicines, partnering with Flagship companies to accelerate the extension of their portfolios into new areas and show that the platform can be applied more broadly, thereby delivering benefits to more patients, sooner. With a highly experienced drug development team and access to the wide ecosystem of Flagship companies, Pioneering Medicines is well positioned to conceive new medicine ideas both internally and in collaboration with strategic partners and advance these assets through to significant value inflection. Pioneering Medicines currently has multiple programs ongoing with plans to have more than 20 programs in 2025-2026. Pioneering Medicines works with external strategic partners including Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and continues to engage in discussions on potential partnerships.
About Flagship Pioneering
Pioneering Medicines was founded by Flagship Pioneering's venture creation engine that invents and builds platform companies, each with the potential for multiple products that transform human health or sustainability. Since its launch in 2000, Flagship has originated and fostered more than 100 scientific ventures, resulting in more than $90 billion in aggregate value. Many of the company’s Flagship has founded have addressed humanity’s most urgent challenges: vaccinating billions of people against COVID-19, curing intractable diseases, improving human health, preempting illness, and feeding the world by improving the resiliency and sustainability of agriculture. Flagship has been recognized twice on FORTUNE’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that have made a positive social and environmental impact through activities that are part of their core business strategies and has been twice named to Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies. Flagship Pioneering Co-Op Program
Welcome to Flagship Pioneering Co-Op Program for the cohort dreaming big and taking courageous leaps. You'll join fellow peers across our ecosystem of companies and learning firsthand how we build first-in-category companies. You’ll have access to enrichment sessions, a dedicated professional development track, and a mentor that help guide you toward your next step. By the end, you will carry on a meaningful project outcome, a genuine network, and a front-row view of how Flagship pioneer new ventures that change the world.
About the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated Co-Op to join our Analytical Development team within Technical Operations (Tech Ops) Organization. This is a hands-on laboratory role designed for a student who is excited about benchwork and interested in gaining real-world experience in biotech analytical development. In this role, you will work closely with experienced scientists to analyze and characterize biologics. You will gain meaningful experience using industry-standard analytical tools and techniques while contributing directly to active development programs.
What You'll Do
- Learn and apply laboratory separation techniques, including HPLC/UPLC (reverse phase, size exclusion, ion exchange), fragment analyzer, and capillary electrophoresis (CE-SDS, cIEF) to assess product quality
- Perform biochemical, and biophysical assays (e.g., ELISA, SEC-MALS, DLS, spectrophotometric assays) to characterize different molecule types
- Assist in developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting lab methods and analytical workflows
- Run tests to measure concentration, purity, identity, stability, and other critical quality attributes
- Prepare samples, buffers, reagents, and mobile phases needed for experiments
- Maintain detailed, accurate, and organized experimental records in lab notebooks and/or electronic systems (e.g., ELN)
- Analyze and interpret data, and summarize results clearly for the team
- Present findings and participate in scientific discussions, including team meetings and program updates
- Follow all lab safety protocols and complete required safety training
What We’re Looking For
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field such as pharmaceutical sciences or biotechnology.
- Strong interest in analytical development and biotech/pharmaceutical drug development.
- Prior coursework or lab experience in analytical chemistry or biochemistry is a plus (not required).
- Familiarity with basic lab techniques (pipetting, buffer prep, aseptic technique) preferred.Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excited to work at the bench and learn new instrumentation and techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Team-oriented and collaborative, with the ability to work effectively in a matrixed, cross-functional environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with chromatography data software (e.g., Empower, Chromeleon) is a plus but not required
This co-op offers direct, hands-on experience in biologics analytical development, contributing to active therapeutic programs.
What We Offer
- Build alongside founders. You’ll work inside the same hypothesis-driven process Flagship uses to conceive and launch first-in-category companies.
- This can be the start of a longer story. Strong co-ops are considered for future opportunities across Flagship and its portfolio companies, not just for this one role.
- Work alongside people who left the safe path. Your colleagues are scientists, engineers, and operators who chose to build something new rather than join something already established.
- Take on real ownership. You're contributing to ventures that are still being defined. Your work can shape real decisions, not just support them.
- Be paid like the contributor you are. Compensation reflects the real work you take on.
